Principal Systems Engineer, Ground Systems
Overview
You own ground system design, development, and integration for DoD and government satellite programs at BAE Systems. In this role, you'll lead technical efforts across the full lifecycle, from requirements analysis through verification, while mentoring a cross-functional team in an Agile environment. Our ESA Strategic Capabilities Unit delivers high-impact technologies, so you'll collaborate with software, hardware, and test engineers to ensure mission success. Working on-site in Denver, you'll drive innovation and shape critical ground architectures for national security.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design, develop, integrate, and test an enterprise satellite ground system, focusing on mission management and command & control.
- 2Decompose system requirements and develop use cases using SysML diagrams, including Block and Activity Diagrams.
- 3Author and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) to ensure seamless subsystem integration.
- 4Lead trade studies and performance analyses to guide architecture decisions.
- 5Prepare and deliver technical presentations to customers and management at major reviews like SRR, PDR, and CDR.
- 6Manage requirements in Jama or DOORS, ensuring traceability and verification attributes.
- 7Guide program milestones such as TRR, FAT/SAT, and GCR to ensure readiness and acceptance.
- 8Mentor junior engineers and function in a project leadership role, balancing cost, schedule, and performance.
Requirements10
- 16+ years of systems engineering experience with a BS degree in Engineering or related field (MS/PhD may substitute for 2 years).
- 2Active TS/SCI security clearance required.
- 3Proficiency with MBSE tools and SysML/UML modeling (Block, Sequence, State Machine diagrams).
- 4Hands-on experience with requirements management tools like Jama or DOORS.
- 5Track record of developing SEMP, ICDs, and other ground CDRL artifacts.
- 6Expertise in verification methods and support of test milestones such as TRR, FAT/SAT.
- 7Knowledge of security processes including RMF, IATT, and ATO.
- 8Experience with Agile development and DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines.
- 9Familiarity with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence) in a technical environment.
- 10Background in ground terminal, mission data processing, or cloud development environments preferred.
