Principal Software Engineer, Ground & Embedded Satellite
Overview
You will own development of satellite command and control, mission planning, and data analysis software at BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems. Your work spans C/C++, Rust, Python, and Ruby across a portfolio of space programs. You will join a cross-functional team of engineers in Denver, Colorado, delivering high-impact technology for national security missions. This role stands out for its breadth: you will work across the full software lifecycle, from requirements to integration, and shape CI/CD pipelines with Docker and Kubernetes. You will also collaborate with the Engineering, Science, and Analysis unit, driving innovation and continual learning in a mission-focused environment.
What You'll Do10
- 1Develop satellite command and control, mission planning, and data analysis software systems using C++, Python, and Rust.
- 2Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with Docker and Kubernetes to streamline deployment and testing.
- 3Design and implement RESTful services using Spring, Flask, or Ruby on Rails for ground systems.
- 4Create front-end interfaces with React or Angular to support mission operators.
- 5Optimize data storage and retrieval using SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres.
- 6Generate UML diagrams (Class, Sequence, Activity) to document architecture and design.
- 7Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure software meets mission requirements and security standards.
- 8Maintain a secure development environment adhering to TS/SCI clearance protocols.
- 9Drive continuous improvement in software development practices, including code reviews and testing.
- 10Support integration and deployment of ground software across multiple environments.
Requirements9
- 16+ years developing software in C++, Java, or Python for embedded or ground systems.
- 2BS degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 3Active TS/SCI security clearance.
- 4Experience with AWS cloud services, including Lambda, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- 5Proficiency in web and REST service development using Spring, Flask, or Ruby on Rails.
- 6Front-end development skills with JavaScript, Angular, React, or Qt.
- 7Back-end development using SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres.
- 8Experience with object-oriented design and UML diagramming.
- 9Knowledge of formal software development practices, including configuration management and coding standards.
