Principal Battery Engineer, Iron-Air Energy Storage
Overview
You will own the electrochemical signal strategy for Iron-Air battery state algorithms, from sensor testing to product implementation. You will lead root cause analyses of field phenomena and define the roadmap for cell internal state determination. As part of the Core Tech organization, you will collaborate with our Berkeley, CA prototyping team and shape the next generation of our multi-day energy storage technology. This role offers the chance to influence scale-up while working on breakthrough climate tech.
What You'll Do6
- 1Build the electrochemical signal strategy for state algorithms, including hands-on testing of novel sensors and measurement methods.
- 2Create a roadmap for cell internal state determination, aligning with product development timelines.
- 3Own cost analysis of electrochemical sensor inclusion and performance optimization from improved state determination.
- 4Scale prototype testing capabilities for sensor evaluation at our Berkeley, CA facility.
- 5Lead RCAs on product-level electrochemical phenomena impacting performance and establish a framework for initial deployments.
- 6Ship improvements to the Iron-Air technology by integrating sensor data into state estimation algorithms.
Requirements4
- 1PhD or MS with 10+ years in Battery or Electrochemical Engineering.
- 2Hands-on lab expertise in prototyping environments, balancing safety, timelines, and quality.
- 3Proven leadership of technical teams through RCAs with excellent data analysis skills.
- 4Experience with battery/cell state estimation, signal processing, or sensor integration into production systems.
