Overview

You will own major additive manufacturing workstreams across LPBF, DED, and related metal processing methods for carbon nanomaterial-infused aluminum and copper systems at Arcturus. You'll translate ambiguous technical goals into repeatable process windows, hardware decisions, and measurable material performance. You'll partner with the CEO, nanomaterials, process, characterization, mechanical, and product engineering teams. This ground-floor role defines the playbook for nanomaterial-enhanced metal AM.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Own major AM workstreams across LPBF, DED, and related metal processing for infused metal parts and wire.
  • 2Develop process windows for aluminum and copper systems that preserve conductivity and mechanical integrity through fabrication.
  • 3Lead parameter development, scan strategy, thermal management, and machine troubleshooting.
  • 4Serve as senior technical voice on melt pool behavior, lasers, machine behavior, and print quality.
  • 5Lead design-for-additive-manufacturing decisions: build orientation, support strategy, and distortion risk.
  • 6Diagnose and resolve print failures: porosity, cracking, distortion, poor bonding, and geometry drift.
  • 7Build process maps connecting machine inputs, feedstock, atmosphere, and post-processing to material outcomes.
  • 8Develop qualification plans, build records, and acceptance criteria for repeatable development and scale-up.
  • 9Use DOE and root-cause methods to improve yield, throughput, and cost.
  • 10Mentor junior engineers and contribute to invention disclosures and patent strategy.

Requirements10

  • 15+ years hands-on experience in additive manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, or metal processing.
  • 2Strong experience with LPBF, DED, WAAM, EBAM, cold spray, or powder metallurgy.
  • 3Understanding of melt pool physics, heat transfer, solidification, residual stress, and process-structure-property relationships.
  • 4Demonstrated experience developing and troubleshooting manufacturing processes in real hardware environments.
  • 5Ability to lead technical workstreams and drive ambiguous problems to clear decisions.
  • 6Strong scientific writing: process documentation, test plans, specifications, and invention disclosures.
  • 7BS/MS/PhD in mechanical engineering, materials science, or related field.
  • 8Deep experience with LPBF and/or DED process development (preferred).
  • 9Experience printing aluminum and/or copper alloys (preferred).
  • 10Experience with metal matrix composites or non-standard AM material systems (preferred).
