Primary Counselor Behavioral Health
Overview
You will provide direct therapeutic support to clients at a 24/7 residential mental health facility, owning individual and group counseling for a caseload of residents with behavioral health challenges. You will work under the Program Director alongside nurses, social workers, and psychiatric technicians to deliver person-centered care. This role differs by integrating hands-on counseling with interdisciplinary treatment planning in a supportive, growth-oriented environment.
What You'll Do8
- 1Assess client needs and design individualized behavioral health programs using evidence-based techniques.
- 2Conduct individual counseling sessions to address stress, mental health challenges, and life issues.
- 3Facilitate group counseling sessions that build coping skills and peer support.
- 4Implement behavioral interventions and adjust them based on client response.
- 5Maintain accurate case notes and monitor client progress toward treatment goals.
- 6Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and update treatment plans.
- 7Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support during emergencies.
- 8Document all interactions and outcomes in the electronic health record system.
Requirements7
- 12 years direct care experience in an inpatient behavioral health setting.
- 22 years of college-level coursework in behavioral health, psychology, or related field.
- 3Equivalent combination of relevant experience and education totaling 2 years.
- 4Background in psychology, sociology, social work, counseling, or related field preferred.
- 5Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- 6Ability to work onsite in Sacramento, California.
- 7Commitment to person-centered, compassionate care.
