Overview
The Pharmacy Technician II owns medication preparation, inventory management, and computer entry of prescriptions across UCSF's Parnassus and Mission Bay campuses. This role delivers specialized pharmaceutical care to patients and researchers, backed by a team of clinical pharmacists and the UCSF School of Pharmacy. You will work directly with Epic and other pharmacy systems, ensuring safe and accurate medication distribution. What You'll Do9
- 1Prepare and dispense medications for outpatient and specialty pharmacy patients, verifying accuracy against prescriptions in Epic.
- 2Manage inventory levels, including ordering, receiving, and stocking pharmaceuticals, ensuring compliance with California Board of Pharmacy regulations.
- 3Enter prescription data and insurance information into pharmacy systems, resolving discrepancies in real time.
- 4Collaborate with pharmacists and technicians to prioritize urgent medication needs during high-volume clinic hours.
- 5Maintain cleanroom and compounding areas per USP 795 and USP 797 standards, documenting environmental controls.
- 6Assist in the training of new technicians and pharmacy students on workflows and Kronos timekeeping.
- 7Handle prior authorizations and patient assistance programs for specialty medications, coordinating with payors.
- 8Support investigational drug services by preparing and labeling study medications under protocol guidelines.
- 9Perform daily audits of controlled substances, using CII tracking systems to ensure security and accountability.
Requirements9
- 12+ years of experience in a specialty pharmacy or retail/community pharmacy setting.
- 2Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program with hands-on externship.
- 3Active Licensed Pharmacy Technician in good standing with the California Board of Pharmacy.
- 4CPhT certification through PTCB or ExCPT preferred.
- 5Proficiency with pharmacy management systems like Epic or Willow.
- 6Knowledge of USP 795 and USP 797 sterile compounding standards.
- 7Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods during shifts.
- 8Strong attention to detail and math skills for dosage calculations.
- 9Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as part of a rotating schedule.
