Pharmacy Lead Technician CVS Houston
Overview
Lead pharmacy operations at a high-volume CVS Health retail store in Houston, TX, overseeing a team of 3-5 technicians to deliver safe, accurate prescription fulfillment. You will be the on-the-floor mentor, coaching the team on SOPs, workflow, and patient care while supporting the Pharmacy Manager. Own inventory control, scheduling, and staff development, with a direct impact on patient health and store performance. This role includes the opportunity to become a certified Technician Immunizer and deliver vaccines at the store and offsite clinics.
What You'll Do9
- 1Lead the pharmacy team in applying SOPs at each workstation (production, pick-up, drive-thru, drop-off) to ensure accurate and timely prescription fulfillment in the first 90 days.
- 2Coach and mentor technicians on workflow, safety, and service excellence, providing real-time feedback and conducting team huddles to reinforce best practices.
- 3Oversee daily operations: schedule pharmacy shifts, review the Digital Workstation Assignment Board, and handle delegated administrative tasks from the Pharmacist-on-duty.
- 4Manage inventory: verify deliveries, complete cycle counts and returns-to-stock, and prepare for annual physical inventories, with a focus on minimizing waste and stockouts.
- 5Resolve patient issues with empathy, escalate complex concerns to the Pharmacist, and promote immunizations at the register and over the phone to boost patient health.
- 6Support the Pharmacy Manager by gathering team performance data, identifying coaching opportunities, and contributing to performance reviews.
- 7Complete Technician Immunizer training (where state permits) to prepare and administer vaccines, monitor for adverse reactions, and document patient information.
- 8Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local pharmacy laws, including controlled substance recordkeeping and patient privacy (HIPAA) standards.
- 9Stay flexible for scheduling and business needs, including traveling to nearby stores to fill shifts as required, and contribute to a safe, inclusive culture.
Requirements9
- 11+ years experience as a Pharmacy Technician
- 2Active state licensure or certification as required by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy
- 3High school diploma or equivalent (if no state mandate) OR actively enrolled in high school program
- 4Must be at least 18 years of age (or meet state minimum age requirement)
- 5Ability to work 30+ hours per week, including nights and weekends
- 6National certification preferred (e.g., PTCB or ExCPT)
- 73-5 years previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician preferred
- 8Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting
- 9Previous experience as an Inventory Specialist preferred
