Patient Services Coordinator - Critical Care ICU
Overview
You own patient scheduling and coordination in the ICU at MD Anderson, serving patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams in a high-acuity environment. You manage appointments, diagnostics, and treatments while maintaining accurate records and ensuring secure communication. You work nights (2x8-hour and 2x12-hour shifts, including weekends) and thrive on direct patient interaction. This role anchors the front-line experience for families during critical care episodes.
What You'll Do7
- 1Greet, orient, and answer questions from patients and family members upon arrival.
- 2Schedule and coordinate patient appointments, including EPIC-based provider visits, diagnostic tests, procedures, and treatments per provider orders.
- 3Communicate appointment details and preparation instructions to patients, families, and staff via phone, secure messaging, and in-person.
- 4Maintain accurate patient records in EPIC, updating relevant information and ensuring confidentiality.
- 5Handle complex documents and prioritize deadlines for time-sensitive tasks.
- 6Acknowledge and clarify customer inquiries or complaints, documenting and addressing needs.
- 7Assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and visitors.
Requirements7
- 1High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree preferred.
- 23+ years of relevant work experience (additional education may substitute on a one-to-one basis).
- 31+ years of recent patient care experience preferred.
- 4Demonstrated customer service and communication skills.
- 5Must pass pre-employment skills test as administered by Human Resources.
- 6Ability to work Night Shift (2x8-hour and 2x12-hour shifts) including weekends.
- 7Onsite work at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas.
