Overview
Own the patient experience at the front desk of a busy urology practice in Philadelphia, handling check-in, scheduling, and financial collections for 1-3 years of patient interactions daily. You'll master EMR systems and insurance verification workflows to keep the clinic running smoothly. This role is the first and last impression for patients, requiring calm professionalism and strong CPT and ICD-10 knowledge. You'll work onsite, directly supporting physicians and clinical staff in a high-volume environment.
What You'll Do10
- 1Greet patients and visitors in person and by phone, ensuring a warm welcome and managing the front desk area.
- 2Register new patients and update demographics, collecting insurance cards and personal information accurately.
- 3Collect co-payments, deductibles, and outstanding balances, and generate daily batch transmittal reports.
- 4Verify insurance benefits and navigate insurance portals to confirm coverage and obtain authorizations.
- 5Scan and file medical records, consents, and faxes into the EMR system, maintaining accurate patient charts.
- 6Schedule follow-up appointments and coordinate patient flow, notifying providers of arrivals and delays.
- 7Answer multiple incoming calls, responding to patient inquiries with courtesy and professionalism.
- 8Maintain patient confidentiality by securing PHI and logging off computers when unattended.
- 9Monitor office supplies and equipment, placing orders as needed to ensure smooth daily operations.
- 10Ensure proper handoff of responsibilities between shifts, adhering to attendance and punctuality standards.
Requirements8
- 11-3 years of customer service experience, preferably in a medical office setting.
- 2High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred.
- 3Skilled in Microsoft Office and comfortable navigating EMR systems.
- 4Basic knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding, with ability to verify insurance via online portals.
- 5Excellent verbal and written communication, with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- 6Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and remain calm in stressful situations.
- 7Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with HMO, PPO, HSA, and Medicare insurance products.
- 8Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally, with some pushing/pulling.
