Overview
You will own the full referral lifecycle for Arlington Orthopedics Associates, coordinating 20-30 referrals per day across specialists, labs, and imaging centers. You will verify insurance, secure authorizations, and schedule appointments using EHR systems like Epic and Cerner. What You'll Do8
- 1Verify insurance coverage and obtain authorizations for all referrals within 48 hours using EHR and payer portals.
- 2Coordinate referrals to specialists, labs, and imaging centers, confirming patient demographics and clinical details.
- 3Communicate with patients, providers, and insurance reps to secure appointment slots and resolve barriers.
- 4Document every referral step in EHR with timestamps and notes, ensuring audit-ready records.
- 5Follow up on pending referrals weekly, chasing outstanding orders and updating statuses.
- 6Educate patients on referral steps, cost estimates, and required paperwork before their visit.
- 7Collaborate with clinical staff to flag urgent referrals and escalate delays to the care team.
- 8Run monthly referral reports in Microsoft Excel to track volume and turnaround times.
Requirements7
- 11+ years in patient coordination, medical front office, or insurance verification.
- 2High school diploma or equivalent; CPC or CCS certification preferred.
- 3Working knowledge of EHR (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and Microsoft Office.
- 4Familiarity with insurance plans, authorization rules, and HIPAA regulations.
- 5Strong written and verbal communication for patient and provider interactions.
- 6Organized with attention to detail, tracking multiple referrals without error.
- 7Ability to prioritize tasks in a high-volume clinical environment.
