Overview

- 1Coordinate and process patient referrals to specialists, laboratories, and other healthcare providers, ensuring accurate documentation in the EHR system.
- 2Verify insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations from payers, using payer portals and phone calls to confirm benefits.
- 3Communicate with patients, providers, and insurance companies to schedule appointments and resolve referral barriers.
- 4Maintain up-to-date referral records, tracking each case from initiation to completion in the EHR system.
- 5Follow up on pending referrals and address any issues to prevent delays in patient care.
- 6Educate patients on referral procedures, including copays, pre-cert requirements, and appointment preparation.
- 7Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure seamless care transitions and timely specialist visits.
Requirements7
- 1High school diploma or equivalent; healthcare-related certification preferred.
- 22+ years in patient coordination, medical office administration, or referral management.
- 3Working knowledge of insurance processes, prior authorization, and healthcare regulations (HIPAA).
- 4Proficiency in electronic health records (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- 5Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in a high-volume environment.
- 6Excellent verbal and written communication skills for patient and provider interactions.
- 7Ability to multitask and prioritize referrals based on urgency and clinical need.
