Patient Observation Assistant, Float Pool Evenings
Overview
You own patient safety for at-risk patients across the Float Pool at Texas Children's Hospital, working evenings from 3p-11p. You report to the RN and deliver Family Centered Care in EC, Acute Care, and Critical Care. You float between units, adapting to acuity and patient needs. This role demands constant vigilance and quick response to prevent harm. You gain exposure to diverse patient populations and sharpen your clinical observation skills.
What You'll Do6
- 1Stay with assigned patient at all times during your shift, ensuring a safe environment.
- 2Assist the RN to maintain a hazard-free zone for patients, visitors, and staff.
- 3Identify patient responses to care and report changes to the RN to support desired outcomes.
- 4Acquire new skills and demonstrate behaviors that improve team and organizational performance.
- 5Attend mandatory training and meet institutional health and safety deadlines.
- 6Stay current on unit and hospital updates and job expectations.
Requirements7
- 1High school diploma or GED.
- 2Knowledge of basic nursing care.
- 3Ability to respond quickly to requests and interact with people at all levels.
- 4Preferred: 1 year experience in psychiatric inpatient, outpatient, or residential programs.
- 5Preferred: Inpatient hospital experience or enrollment in an accredited nursing education program.
- 6Preferred: BLS from American Heart Association and CNA certification.
- 7Must pass respiratory fit testing.
