Patient Care Technician III - PreOp/PACU
Overview
Patient Care Technician III owns direct patient care and unit coordination in the PreOp/PACU at Wexford Hospital. You report to the Charge Nurse and Care Team Leader, partnering with RNs to manage stable and acutely ill patients. Daily work spans phlebotomy, IV insertion, EKG monitoring, and catheterization. This role stands apart through its emphasis on cardiac dysrhythmia training and point-of-care testing. You also orient new PCTs and drive patient satisfaction through hourly rounding and bedside shift reports.
What You'll Do8
- 1Deliver and document direct care: vital signs, phlebotomy, EKG, glucose testing, and bladder scanning.
- 2Insert and remove IVs, perform straight catheterization, and collect urine specimens.
- 3Assist with exams, treatments, and procedures while supporting cardiac monitoring.
- 4Drive patient satisfaction through bedside shift reports and purposeful hourly rounding.
- 5Document all care in the electronic medical record and report changes to nursing staff.
- 6Coordinate patient admissions, discharges, and transfers on the unit.
- 7Maintain a clean and orderly environment, including supply stocking and equipment checks.
- 8Precept newly hired PCTs and support safety protocols such as falls prevention and isolation.
Requirements8
- 1High School Diploma or GED.
- 21 year in an acute or long-term care facility.
- 3Experience as a PCA, PCT, NA, LPN, EMT, or military Hospital Corpsman.
- 4Current enrollment in an Associate's in Nursing (halfway) or Bachelor's in Nursing (junior year) program.
- 5Proficiency in IV insertion, phlebotomy, straight catheterization, and cardiac dysrhythmia.
- 6CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
- 7Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance, Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance, and Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Clearance.
- 8Basic computer skills.
