Overview
You will own patient care in the OB Emergency Department at Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown, handling vital signs, phlebotomy, and daily living support for 10-15 patients per shift. You will work with RNs, OBED physicians, and a multidisciplinary team in a high-acuity setting. What You'll Do9
- 1Obtain and record vital signs for incoming OB patients, charting data in Epic and flagging abnormal values to the charge nurse within 5 minutes.
- 2Monitor and document fluid intake and output, using Cerner to track trends and support clinical decisions.
- 3Perform blood draws using proper phlebotomy techniques, ensuring specimen integrity and patient safety.
- 4Round with patients and assist with activities of daily living, including mobility, hygiene, and feeding, to improve comfort and satisfaction.
- 5Escort patients to diagnostic imaging and lab services, coordinating with transport team to reduce wait times.
- 6Restock patient rooms and supply carts with PPE and linens, maintaining compliance with infection control standards.
- 7Assist with fetal monitoring setup and documentation, alerting RNs to any changes in maternal or fetal status.
- 8Communicate patient requests and concerns to the care team, facilitating timely responses and follow-ups.
- 9Support discharge processes by helping patients with belongings and providing discharge instructions as directed.
Requirements10
- 1BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire, from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- 2High school diploma or equivalency, or 1 year of applicable cumulative job experience.
- 3Nurse Aide certification preferred.
- 4Experience in patient care or hospital environment preferred.
- 5Proficiency in vital signs monitoring and documentation.
- 6Ability to perform phlebotomy procedures as trained.
- 7Strong communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction.
