Overview
As an Education Support Professional (ESP) at Winchester Public Schools, you will own direct academic and behavioral support for students in general and special education settings. Working in a K-12 environment with a team of teachers, nurses, and administrators, you will implement instructional plans, collect data, and foster student independence. This role is unique in its focus on building rapport and supporting ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), making a direct impact on student growth every day.
What You'll Do9
- 1Teach individuals and small groups to advance academic growth, using strategies from the classroom teacher.
- 2Design activities that match students' developmental levels, promoting independence and confidence.
- 3Track student progress by collecting data from established plans and assisting in growth tracking.
- 4Reinforce positive behavior through feedback and help students resolve peer conflicts on the spot.
- 5Collaborate with teachers and staff to maintain a safe, secure classroom environment.
- 6Build rapport with students to support social, organizational, and critical skills development.
- 7Support students with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including hygiene, feeding, and toileting, as well as lifting or transferring students from wheelchairs.
- 8Adjust to daily routine changes and administrative directives, maintaining flexibility and confidentiality.
- 9Complete Safety Care Training (SCT) to meet physical demands and ensure student safety.
Requirements8
- 1Two years of higher education preferred, or equivalent experience.
- 2Demonstrated ability to work with students under the direction of a teacher, nurse, or support staff.
- 3Ability to support and reinforce teacher expectations for student behavior and learning.
- 4Physical agility and strength to move with students and perform lifting/transferring tasks.
- 5Completion of Safety Care Training (SCT) or the ability to complete it upon hire.
- 6Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
- 7Willingness to engage in professional development to meet diverse student needs.
- 8Flexibility to handle changes in daily routines and administrative directives.
