Overview

Own instructional support in a special education environment for students with moderate to severe cognitive and physical needs. You will work under the supervision of a special education teacher to reinforce material and support individuals or small groups. What You'll Do10

  • 1Instruct individuals or small groups to reinforce teacher-presented material
  • 2Translate oral and written communications for parents, students, and staff
  • 3Assist students with personal care needs in a safe, respectful manner
  • 4Implement behavioral plans to support positive academic and social outcomes
  • 5Assist with emergency medications and provide basic first aid when needed
  • 6Support data collection and assessments under the certified teacher supervision
  • 7Operate instructional equipment and supervise students during drills and activities
  • 8Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information
  • 9Participate in trainings and meetings to improve classroom performance
  • 10Be flexible and adapt to changing needs while supporting a positive classroom environment

Requirements6

  • 1High school diploma or equivalent plus an Associate’s Degree or 60 semester hours from an accredited university
  • 2CPR/First Aid certification
  • 3Ability to operate standard office equipment and software
  • 4Satisfactory criminal background check
  • 5Meet physical demands including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • 6Experience working with students with disabilities preferred
