
Optical Transport Engineer, DWDM & ROADM
Overview
You will design, deploy, and maintain DWDM and optical transport networks for a large-scale carrier environment. Own the lifecycle of optical infrastructure, from initial wavelength planning to in-service optimization. You'll work alongside network architects and operations teams, ensuring network reliability and performance. This role offers direct ownership of network buildouts and troubleshooting, with a focus on ROADM architectures and OSNR management.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design and provision DWDM transport circuits across metro and long-haul routes.
- 2Deploy and configure ROADM nodes, ensuring correct wavelength assignment and power balancing.
- 3Perform optical power measurements and adjust amplification levels to maintain OSNR targets.
- 4Troubleshoot optical layer issues using OTDR, OSA, and other test equipment.
- 5Collaborate with network planning teams to optimize wavelength routing and capacity.
- 6Document network configurations and maintain as-built records for audit trails.
- 7Support field technicians during installation and turn-up of optical equipment.
- 8Drive root cause analysis for network outages and implement preventive measures.
Requirements7
- 13-5 years of hands-on engineering experience with DWDM and optical transport networks.
- 2Strong knowledge of ROADM architectures and wavelength planning.
- 3Proven ability to work with optical amplifiers, dispersion compensation, and power management.
- 4Experience with OSNR calculation and optical signal troubleshooting.
- 5Familiarity with network management systems for optical equipment, such as Netcool or uNMS.
- 6Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or equivalent experience.
- 7Ability to work onsite in Denver, CO or Mt. Laurel, NJ.
