Overview
You will architect next-generation Near-Packaged Optics (NPO) and Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) solutions for AI-scale systems at Ciena, the global leader in high-speed connectivity. This role sits on the xPO System Architecture and Simulation team, where you will define system architectures, lead modeling and simulation, and drive end-to-end performance validation. You will collaborate with photonics, packaging, and electrical engineering teams to optimize system design. What You'll Do6
- 1Define architectures for current and future xPO interconnect products, translating high-level system requirements into subcomponent specifications
- 2Lead system-level modeling and simulation efforts to enable end-to-end performance validation of optical interconnect systems
- 3Correlate simulated and measured performance data to refine internal models and improve predictive accuracy
- 4Advance internally developed Python-based link simulation tools to support evolving product needs
- 5Collaborate with PIC, EIC, packaging, and other engineering groups to optimize system design across the stack
- 6Present system insights and results to internal and external stakeholders, synthesizing complex technical findings into clear communication
Requirements6
- 1Master's degree (or higher) in Optics/Photonics, Physics, or Electrical Engineering with industry experience in simulation, measurement, or system architecture
- 2Knowledge of high-speed photonics and optical system design with emphasis on integrated photonics
- 3Understanding of signal integrity principles and IMDD transceiver design
- 4Proficiency in Python programming
- 5Ability to synthesize complex technical findings into clear communication
- 6Nice to have: PhD in a relevant field, familiarity with IEEE and OIF standards, experience with signal integrity and power integrity analysis, knowledge of DSP and numerical analysis, background in silicon photonics, and experience with high-speed test tools like VNA, BERT, and oscilloscopes
