Operations Manager, Sign Manufacturing & Installation
Overview
You will own daily operations at Master Signs, a custom sign company in American Fork, Utah, overseeing production, fabrication, and installation for commercial signage projects. You will manage a team of 10-15 production and installation staff, coordinate with design, sales, and ownership, and ensure projects ship on time. This role is hands-on, requiring you to step in when needed. You will directly influence company growth by streamlining workflow and building a reliable operational system.
What You'll Do9
- 1Build and manage daily production schedules, prioritizing jobs based on deadlines and resource availability.
- 2Assign tasks to production, fabrication, and installation teams, ensuring clear next steps for each project.
- 3Monitor active jobs to identify and resolve bottlenecks, coordinating with design, printing, fabrication, painting, and installation teams.
- 4Lead and support the production, fabrication, and installation teams, setting expectations and holding them accountable for quality and deadlines.
- 5Review new jobs to confirm all details like drawings, materials, and permits are ready before fabrication begins, coordinating material orders with vendors and subcontractors.
- 6Conduct quality checks throughout production to ensure projects meet specifications, developing checklists to prevent rework.
- 7Manage purchasing and inventory, ordering materials for upcoming projects and optimizing costs to reduce waste.
- 8Schedule and assign installations, ensuring crews have complete job information and necessary equipment, troubleshooting installation challenges.
- 9Evaluate and improve workflows, scheduling, and communication, developing systems to reduce rework and bottlenecks.
Requirements8
- 13+ years managing production, construction, or manufacturing teams with direct supervision of at least 5 employees.
- 2Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, from estimating through installation.
- 3Hands-on experience in manufacturing, construction, or fabrication environments, with mechanical aptitude.
- 4Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying issues.
- 5Experience coordinating vendors, materials, and subcontractors for project completion.
- 6Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings, with experience in sign or print production a plus.
- 7Excellent communication skills to lead teams and interact with clients and ownership.
- 8Demonstrated track record of improving processes and reducing rework in a production setting.
