On Call Food Service Worker, Nonprofit Kitchen & Community Programs
Overview
The role owns meal preparation and kitchen operations for a nonprofit housing program serving residents with complex needs. You will work onsite in San Francisco, support nutrition-focused meal plans, and supervise volunteers to ensure safe, clean dining and food preparation areas. You will collaborate with a Food Service Coordinator and dietitian to manage budgets and documentation while providing culturally competent services. This role offers exposure to social services, hospitality, and community health in a mission-driven environment.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build nutritious meals according to the menu plan and serve residents
- 2Maintain cleanliness and safety in the kitchen, dining, and food areas
- 3Oversee pantry and refrigerator organization and stock
- 4Receive and store food supplies, equipment, and utensils
- 5Train and supervise volunteers and staff assisting in food prep and cleanup
- 6Assist the Food Service Coordinator with shift coverage and support
- 7Prepare reports and documentation as requested
- 8Complete administrative duties and budget monitoring in coordination with the coordinator
- 9Assist with scheduling and coordinating nonstandard shifts when necessary
- 10Support nutritional guidelines and cross-cultural service delivery
Requirements10
- 1High school diploma or equivalent
- 2Two years of experience in food preparation for large groups in a commercial or residential setting
- 3Training in nutrition or a food preparation program desirable
- 4Ability to read and follow written instructions and recipes
- 5Knowledge of food handling and safety standards
- 6Ability to work with diverse resident populations and follow oral and written directions
- 7Teamwork and cooperative attitude with strong written communication skills
- 8Willingness to work nonstandard shifts including weekends and holidays
- 9Ability to work with a dietitian and demonstrate planning skills
- 10Demonstrated achievement orientation and organizational awareness
