On-Call Cook, Food Services & Nutrition
Overview
You will cook nutritious meals for residents at North County Serenity House, a residential treatment program for women. You'll manage food prep, ordering, and kitchen sanitation in a trauma-informed, gender-responsive setting. Reporting to the Food Services Department, you'll work with a small team and supervise kitchen client workers. This role stands out for its focus on recovery support and the ability to work flexible on-call shifts.
What You'll Do7
- 1Prepare well-balanced, appealing meals for residents and special events, following the production menu.
- 2Manage food inventory with FIFO method, proper refrigeration, and storage to minimize waste.
- 3Drive the Food Services van to transport food, meals, and supplies between facilities.
- 4Maintain professional safety, cleanliness, and sanitation standards per health codes, ensuring equipment servicing.
- 5Train and evaluate kitchen client workers on safe food handling, holding them accountable for safety standards.
- 6Advise on efficiency improvements and cost-saving measures, utilizing donations and creative menus.
- 7Complete assigned training, attend meetings, and maintain food handler certification.
Requirements7
- 1High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary degree preferred.
- 2Current certification in food safety and sanitation required.
- 3Valid First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within specified timeframe.
- 4Valid California driver's license and access to registered, insured transportation.
- 51+ year experience in a professional kitchen, with roles in various culinary positions.
- 6Experience with FIFO method.
- 7Physical ability to stand 5 hours and walk 3 hours in an 8-hour shift.
Salary Insight
