Network Test Engineer, Software Test & Automation at HPE
Overview
You will own test strategy and execution for HPE Networking platforms, validating software across data center, cloud, and campus networks used globally. You will partner with Product Management, Software Engineering, and Hardware teams to review designs, develop test plans, and automate scenarios with Python. You will debug complex networking issues involving Layer 2/3 protocols and hardware, ensuring reliability at scale. What You'll Do9
- 1Review product requirements and technical designs with Product Management, Software Engineering, and Hardware teams to shape testability.
- 2Build comprehensive functional, system, and regression test plans for networking software and platforms in the first 90 days.
- 3Execute manual and automated test cases to validate functionality, scalability, reliability, and performance across Layer 2 and Layer 3 features.
- 4Design and maintain automated test frameworks using Python for networking scenarios.
- 5Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines to improve product quality and release efficiency.
- 6Identify, reproduce, and document software and hardware defects, then partner with development to root-cause and verify fixes.
- 7Validate routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS) and network services under realistic conditions.
- 8Perform hardware qualification and validation testing for new networking platforms using Spirent or Ixia equipment.
- 9Drive continuous improvement in testing processes, automation, and product quality across the team.
Requirements9
- 12+ years of software testing experience with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field; 1+ year with a Master's degree.
- 2Hands-on experience developing and executing software test plans and test cases for complex systems.
- 3Proficiency in Python for test automation.
- 4Strong analytical, debugging, and troubleshooting skills for networking software and hardware.
- 5Experience with Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking technologies, including Ethernet, VLANs, QoS, CoS, load balancing, and OpenConfig.
- 6Knowledge of routing and transport protocols: BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, RSVP, multicast, L2VPN, L3VPN, and VPLS.
- 7Experience working in Linux, FreeBSD, and virtualized environments.
- 8Familiarity with network test equipment such as Spirent or Ixia.
- 9Understanding of testing methodologies including unit, integration, system, regression, black-box, and solution testing.
