Overview
Join J. Gibson McIlvain, a hardwood authority since 1798, as a Mill Laborer working in a high-volume lumber yard. You will own material flow: tagging, strapping, stacking, and wrapping Teak, Sapele, Mahogany, and Ipe from forest to job site. Work alongside experienced Lumber Mill Machine Operators and Forklift Drivers in a close-knit team. What You'll Do9
- 1Tag lumber ends with a pneumatic staple gun, ensuring accurate identification.
- 2Strap lumber using battery powered ratchet to secure loads for shipment.
- 3Stack plywood and lumber by hand, organizing inventory by grade and species.
- 4Wrap lumber on the styler wrap line assembly line, meeting daily output targets.
- 5Assist Lumber Mill Machine Operators and Forklift Drivers with material moves and line changes.
- 6Maintain a clean and safe mill by removing debris from work areas and walkways.
- 7Process work orders with basic math and reading comprehension to verify counts and sizes.
- 8Perform general labor tasks as assigned by supervisors, supporting mill operations.
- 9Lift and move lumber up to 70 lbs repetitively throughout shifts.
Requirements8
- 1GED or high school diploma.
- 21+ years in general labor or manufacturing environment preferred.
- 3Ability to lift 70 lbs repeatedly and perform heavy physical work: bending, stooping, and standing for full shifts.
- 4Comfort working outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
- 5Strong math and reading skills to interpret work orders and measurements.
- 6Reliable transportation to onsite location in Baltimore, MD.
- 7Must pass pre-employment drug screening (including marijuana) and math assessment.
- 8Available for Monday-Friday shifts: 7:00am-3:30pm or 2:00pm-10:30pm.
