Overview

The Leidos Undersea Systems Division (USD) seeks a Mechanical Engineer to lead design and deployment of payloads and UUV systems for NIWC Pacific. This role involves collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to develop mechanical solutions and requires a Secret Clearance. Candidates will work in San Diego and may travel internationally.

What You'll Do11

  • 1Design mechanical hardware and sensors for at-sea deployment following system requirements
  • 2Perform mechanical engineering design using CAD including Solid Edge
  • 3Analyze underwater systems using ANSYS SolidWorks Simulation or Abaqus
  • 4Conduct test and evaluation of mechanical prototypes in lab and field settings
  • 5Lead benchtop testing with electronics and software engineers
  • 6Assemble and refurb subsystems for at-sea testing events
  • 7Develop test objectives and milestones to meet system goals
  • 8Navigate diverse work environments including piers warehouses and vessels
  • 9Climb ladders up to 20 feet and work in noisy environments
  • 10Collaborate with government agencies and research teams
  • 11Drive rapid prototyping initiatives for mechanical components

Requirements10

  • 1Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 6 years experience
  • 2Secret Clearance required
  • 3Proficiency in CAD design Solid Edge or SolidWorks
  • 4Experience with ANSYS SolidWorks Simulation Abaqus for structural analysis
  • 5Knowledge of Python or Matlab for automation tasks
  • 6Physical ability to lift 50 lbs and work in varied conditions
  • 7Previous experience with underwater systems UUVs or subsea mechanical
  • 8Familiarity with CCA chassis mounting and thermal analysis techniques
  • 9Track record in fast-paced R&D environments
  • 10Government agency experience especially with NIWC Pacific preferred
