Overview

You own on-site deployment, integration, and commissioning of automated equipment like sorters, conveyors, and work cells. You lead the technical execution, ensuring PLCs, IPCs, and networks are provisioned, tested, and brought online. You direct commissioning teams and partner with contractors and integrators for safe, reliable system startup. This role thrives on hands-on problem solving and root-cause analysis in a live environment. You drive continuous improvement in testing tools and deployment practices.

What You'll Do8

  • 1Lead on-site execution of commissioning plans for sorters, conveyors, and work cells, provisioning and configuring Linux-based IPCs, PLCs, HMIs, and field devices.
  • 2Define and execute I/O checkouts, network verification, and system bring-up activities, developing detailed testing plans with sequencing and acceptance criteria.
  • 3Serve as first-line technical support for controls, networking, electrical, and mechanical issues, diagnosing VLAN misconfigurations, IP conflicts, and fieldbus errors.
  • 4Drive root-cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions, documenting issues and lessons learned.
  • 5Manage commissioning teams, contractors, and technicians during deployment, enforcing safety and quality standards.
  • 6Validate equipment functionality against design specs and operational requirements, supporting integration into WCS and higher-level orchestration layers.
  • 7Develop and refine commissioning and testing automation tools to reduce cycle time and improve repeatability.
  • 8Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, maintainability, and deployment efficiency.

Requirements9

  • 13+ years of systems engineering and operations leadership for an Internet service or leading-edge IT organization.
  • 25+ years of managing system or software development teams.
  • 37+ years of hands-on systems engineering and administrative work in networking, storage systems, and operating systems.
  • 4Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
  • 5Experience in systems engineering and operations leadership for an Internet service or leading-edge IT organization.
  • 6Experience in managing system or software development teams.
  • 7Experience in agile software development methodology.
  • 8AWS experience, including platforms, services, and design patterns (preferred).
  • 9Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, and continuous deployment (preferred).
