Overview
The Mainframe Storage Engineer at Triwave Solutions leads the design and maintenance of high‑availability storage subsystems for mission‑critical systems operating 24×7. This role supports the Agency’s Tape Management System and Virtual Tape Control System while ensuring data resilience across petabyte‑scale environments. What You'll Do14
- 1Enhance mainframe storage infrastructure to meet SSA performance and availability objectives
- 2Engineer and maintain replication snapshots ABARS HSM and virtual tape architectures
- 3Manage SMS constructs ACS routines storage classes management classes and ISMF‑based configurations
- 4Support customer requests for provisioning backup recovery dataset utilities JCL ISPF and catalog services
- 5Design storage architectures automated tiering virtualized provisioning pools and SRDF GDDR configurations
- 6Conduct disaster‑recovery engineering scripting planning and execution with RPO RTO compliance
- 7Develop documentation project plans scripts test models and monthly activity reports in Microsoft Office formats
- 8Perform analysis troubleshooting and resolution of backup replication performance and capacity issues
- 9Monitor storage environment to ensure workloads perform as designed and planned
- 10Expertise in Linux command‑line environment production documentation using industry best practices
- 11Automate gathered process requirements into Ansible playbooks
- 12Provide support for disaster recovery exercises tape and encryption processes
- 13Utilize IBM JCL dataset utilities ISPF IDCAMS and Access Method Services tools
- 14Apply knowledge of z/OS and experience with ISPF

- 1Bachelor’s Degree plus 7 years experience
- 27+ years supporting IBM z/OS mainframe storage systems including SMS HSM ABARS and ISMF
- 3Experience with Dell PowerMax DASD DLm virtual tape PowerScale ECS and associated control software
- 4Hands‑on experience with JCL IDCAMS ISPF dataset utilities volume and catalog management
- 5Experience with BMC Mainview SRM StopX37 Rocket BRM TREX and related toolsets
- 6Knowledge of FICON TCP/IP and mainframe connectivity models
- 7Strong documentation and customer‑support skills
- 8Deep expertise in storage engineering performance capacity planning replication and DR
- 9Ability to design test deploy storage management including DASD tape ECS and replication topologies
- 10Experience implementing automation scripts for reporting alerts analysis and storage management
- 11Proven ability working with ServiceNow change incident processes in enterprise environments
- 127 years of experience or more as a Mainframe Storage Engineer
- 135 years of experience with Oracle VSMc VSM VLE and ZFS virtual tape libraries
- 144 years of experience with IBM JCL CA-1 Tape Management System and CA Vantage
- 153 years of experience designing and building Storage Management System SMS
- 162 years of experience using DataDomain Management Center DDMC
- 17Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- 18Experience supporting federal agency mainframe environments
- 19Desired: experience designing long‑term storage transformation architectures supporting cyber‑resilience electronic vaulting and disaster‑recovery exercises
- 20Desired: ability to grow maintain and engineer problems on virtual tape architectures
