As the Licensed Residential Builder / Lead Carpenter at Detroit Farm & Cider, you will own the full lifecycle of construction projects across a growing farm and hospitality property, from planning and estimating to hands-on carpentry and crew supervision. You will lead a small team of carpenters and laborers, collaborating with ownership to prioritize and execute projects that keep the property thriving. What You'll Do7

  • 1Lead construction projects from start to finish, including demolition, framing, and final finishes, ensuring work aligns with approved plans and schedules.
  • 2Supervise carpenters and laborers, assigning daily tasks, monitoring productivity, and correcting workmanship issues on the spot.
  • 3Perform material takeoffs and estimate labor, materials, and timelines for each project, keeping costs controlled and waste minimized.
  • 4Coordinate with subcontractors, inspectors, and other trades to keep projects moving and ready for required inspections.
  • 5Build and repair with your own hands, handling rough framing, trim, cabinetry, and other carpentry tasks safely and accurately.
  • 6Maintain a safe, clean jobsite and enforce proper tool usage to uphold professional standards.
  • 7Communicate project status, material needs, and concerns to ownership proactively to avoid costly delays.

Requirements8

  • 1Active Michigan Residential Builder License or Maintenance & Alteration Contractor license with carpentry designation.
  • 25+ years of professional construction experience, with significant carpentry and crew supervision.
  • 3Strong rough and finish carpentry skills, including framing, door and window installation, and structural repairs.
  • 4Proven ability to read construction drawings and perform material takeoffs and estimates.
  • 5Solid understanding of building codes, safety standards, and construction best practices.
  • 6Experience coordinating multiple trades and managing subcontractors.
  • 7Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • 8Excellent communication and leadership skills with a record of dependable attendance.
