Legal Counsel, Litigation and Employment Law
Overview
As Legal Counsel, Litigation, you will own employment litigation and compliance for the nation's largest residential solar and storage company. Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, you will advise senior leadership on complex disputes, regulatory matters, and cross-functional initiatives. You will collaborate with the People Team, external counsel, and executives to mitigate risk and drive business outcomes. This role offers a hybrid schedule in San Francisco and a chance to shape legal strategy in the clean energy sector. You will also champion ethical standards and leverage AI tools to modernize legal operations.
What You'll Do8
- 1Partner with the People Team and cross-functional leaders to resolve employment disputes, guide compliance with evolving California labor laws, and foster a positive employee experience.
- 2Manage a portfolio of complex employment litigation, from demand letters through trial, coordinating with external counsel and internal stakeholders.
- 3Advise senior leadership on litigation risks, settlement strategies, and preventive measures, translating legal analysis into pragmatic business recommendations.
- 4Maintain deep knowledge of federal and state regulations affecting the solar industry, ensuring proactive compliance and readiness for growth.
- 5Collaborate with external counsel and manage litigation budgets through Legal Tracker or similar platforms, ensuring cost-effective outcomes.
- 6Drive the adoption of AI-powered legal research and e-discovery tools, optimizing case workflows and document review processes.
- 7Embody the company's 'We Love People' value by communicating clearly, acting decisively, and fostering trust across teams.
- 8Develop and deliver training to internal stakeholders on employment law updates, ethical conduct, and litigation avoidance.
Requirements9
- 1J.D. and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar, with California Bar preferred.
- 28+ years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house, with a focus on employment law and litigation.
- 3Proven track record managing complex employment litigation, including class actions and PAGA claims.
- 4Expertise in California employment law, including wage and hour, discrimination, and wrongful termination.
- 5Strong team management skills, with experience mentoring junior attorneys and legal professionals.
- 6Experience managing outside counsel budgets through Legal Tracker or a similar platform.
- 7Demonstrated proficiency with AI tools for legal research, document analysis, or workflow automation, or a strong aptitude to learn quickly.
- 8Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- 9High ethical standards, integrity, and a commitment to fostering a culture of compliance and accountability.
