Overview

Own the legal assistant support for employment labor and immigration groups in a leading Detroit law office. You will manage calendars, draft and proofread documents, and assist with USCIS filings and case tracking. This role supports attorneys and paralegals in a fast paced team environment. You will contribute to client service and information governance practices while expanding your immigration and employment law exposure.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Build and edit legal documents, correspondence, and memoranda to firm standards
  • 2Manage attorney calendars, meetings, CLEs, time entries, reimbursements, mail, and client contacts
  • 3E-file documents in state and federal courts and assist with billing as needed
  • 4Create, organize, and retire client files in accordance with firm policies
  • 5Review emails and file attorney correspondence to appropriate client files
  • 6Assist with immigration petitions and applications, gathering required documentation from clients
  • 7Communicate with clients on case status and respond to USCIS inquiries
  • 8Process USCIS and Department of State correspondence and aid with responses to requests for evidence
  • 9Track immigration matters, deadlines, and expirations to ensure timely follow up
  • 10Coordinate translation and credential evaluation services and obtain vendor quotes as needed

Requirements10

  • 13+ years of legal assistant or related experience preferred
  • 2Experience supporting attorneys in employment/labor, litigation, immigration, or other legal practice areas preferred
  • 3Familiarity with immigration petitions, applications, USCIS correspondence, and case tracking a plus
  • 4Strong command of English grammar, spelling, and proofreading
  • 5Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • 6Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • 7Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • 8Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment
  • 9Professional client service oriented approach
  • 10Willingness to learn new technology, software, and processes
