Lead Production Technician - Chemical Process | Air Liquide
Overview
As the Lead Production Technician, you will own shift operations at our Fremont facility, directing a team of technicians to meet production targets while maintaining safety and quality. You will coordinate daily activities, coach team members on chemical process expertise, and act as first responder for equipment issues. This role is distinct because it combines hands-on production work with leadership duties, including emergency response team participation. You'll work a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, collaborating with the supervisor to drive performance and continuous improvement. Your expertise in chemical manufacturing will ensure defect-free results and operational excellence.
What You'll Do12
- 1Coordinate shift activities to meet the production schedule, conducting multiple shift rounds to ensure execution of plans.
- 2Lead start-of-shift meetings to communicate priorities and general team communications.
- 3Provide on-shift technical and process subject matter expertise to resolve quality issues.
- 4Coach team members on process and equipment to enhance their skills and knowledge.
- 5Sign work permits and ensure all Environmental, Safety and Health standards are met or exceeded.
- 6Facilitate first-line conflict resolution and coach team members on value assessments of tasks.
- 7Participate in root cause or failure analysis using Sologic RCI methodology to identify and correct issues.
- 8Ensure maintenance work requests are clearly defined, scheduled, and completed, and align startup/shutdown tasks with plant operations.
- 9Maintain proper inventory levels of product and raw materials, and act as first responder for production issues.
- 10Create end-of-shift reports and participate in emergency response team activities, including wearing a Level A suit and SCBA.
- 11Cross-train on approved functions and independently initiate activities to achieve defect-free results.
- 12Research and incorporate new ideas for process improvements into daily work.
Requirements12
- 1High School Diploma or GED
- 23+ years of experience in a chemical process operations environment, qualified on process
- 3Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- 4Proficiency with basic computer software including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs
- 5Performance-based leadership skill set with Incident Commander Training (ICS200 minimum)
- 6Demonstrated ability to think ahead, plan, and prepare action plans to achieve results
- 7Qualified in process for at least one year
- 8Demonstrated troubleshooting skills and understanding of plant fire systems and alarms
- 9Completed Hazmat technician level training from a certified body
- 10Understanding of IMS and Plant Gas Monitoring system, and plant-specific cylinder handling programs
- 11Ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders, and medically pass respiratory and physical tests to wear a full-face respirator
- 12Must remain clean-shaven at all times to ensure proper respirator fit
