Lead Field Technician Electrical Power Systems
Overview
The Lead Field Service Technician for Power Systems owns startup, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical power distribution systems at customer sites in the greater Houston area. The role acts as the on-site technical lead, executing complex field projects and ensuring safe energization while delivering high-quality service. Regular local travel is required, with occasional extended hours during critical commissioning or energization activities.
What You'll Do10
- 1Lead startup, commissioning, and acceptance testing of electrical power systems including MV and LV switchgear, MCCs, and VFDs
- 2Perform advanced electrical testing such as insulation resistance, contact resistance, relay testing, and functional verification
- 3Interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, and control logic to diagnose issues
- 4Serve as on-site lead, coordinating with customers, contractors, and engineers
- 5Make real-time decisions during system energization and project execution
- 6Prepare accurate, customer-ready field service reports
- 7Mentor junior technicians and provide training in field operations
- 8Ensure safety compliance with NFPA 70E and OSHA standards
- 9Support continuous improvement of field service processes and standards
- 10Travel to multiple customer sites to support project execution
Requirements10
- 15–10+ years of field service, commissioning, or electrical testing
- 2Strong experience with medium voltage and low voltage power distribution
- 3Proven ability to lead field projects independently
- 4Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic capability
- 5Strong communication and leadership skills in field environments
- 6Willingness to travel as required
- 7Preferred qualifications include NETA standards and Level II–IV certification
- 8Experience with protective relays and control systems
- 9OEM training (Siemens, Eaton, Schneider, ABB)
- 10Journeyman or Master Electrician license
