Senior Electrical Testing Technician, NETA & Relay Testing
Overview
Senior Electrical Testing Technician owns field testing and commissioning for 5+ years in industrial and utility settings. The role covers low, medium, and high-voltage systems with Doble, Megger, and Omicron gear. Reporting to Powre Tek Electrical Field Services in Houston, Texas, the technician works on substations, switchgear, and protective relays. What You'll Do9
- 1Test and commission low, medium, and high-voltage equipment including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and protective relays.
- 2Perform transformer diagnostics: TTR, winding resistance, insulation resistance, power factor, excitation current, and SFRA.
- 3Run breaker tests: contact resistance, insulation resistance, timing/travel analysis, primary injection, and secondary injection.
- 4Test and verify protective relays with functional checks and trip verification.
- 5Troubleshoot electrical systems, control circuits, and wiring using one-lines, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- 6Commission and verify startup of new or existing electrical systems, ensuring NFPA 70E and OSHA compliance.
- 7Lead jobs and direct junior technicians on site.
- 8Document field service results and deliver detailed reports to customers and engineers.
- 9Inspect and test current transformers (CTs), potential transformers (PTs), automatic transfer switches, motor control centers, and DC systems.
Requirements10
- 15+ years of electrical testing and commissioning experience, with strong low, medium, and high-voltage skills.
- 2Hands-on expertise with Doble, Megger, Omicron, and Fluke test equipment.
- 3Ability to interpret one-lines, schematics, and manufacturer drawings.
- 4Strong knowledge of electrical theory and power distribution systems.
- 5Experience with industrial substations, switchgear, transformers, and protective devices.
- 6NETA certification is a strong plus; NETA Level III or IV preferred.
- 7Proven leadership in directing junior technicians and managing jobs.
- 8Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- 9Willingness to travel, work outages, extended shifts, and occasional weekends.
- 10Certifications in NFPA 70E, OSHA, and NICET are preferred.
