NETA Field Service Technician, Electrical Testing
Overview
You will own field service testing and troubleshooting for low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems (480V to 600kV) across industrial and commercial sites. Join a NETA-accredited leader with one of the largest field services divisions, working on everything from Doble transformer tests to Tan Delta cable testing. You will rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer outages. This role stands out for its exposure to the full spectrum of electrical testing, from TTR to VLF, with opportunities for OSHA 30 and NFPA 70E training.
What You'll Do9
- 1Inspect, test, and troubleshoot low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems, from 480V to 600kV.
- 2Perform instrument transformer tests and power transformer testing, including Doble, TTR, and insulation resistance.
- 3Test both electro-mechanical and solid-state relays, calibrating moderately complex relays and power metering.
- 4Conduct cable testing using Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, and DC Hipot methods.
- 5Diagnose and fix automatic transfer switch issues on customer sites.
- 6Test low, medium, and high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- 7Collect and analyze data from field tests, documenting results for client reports.
- 8Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies within required timeframes.
- 9Collaborate with team members to complete start-up and commissioning projects efficiently.
Requirements10
- 15+ years of relevant experience in switchgear testing and troubleshooting.
- 2NETA Certification (III or IV) or similar, or an electrician license preferred.
- 3Associate’s degree in Electrical Power & Controls from an accredited 2-year technical college, a EE Degree from an ABET-accredited college, or military training (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or Navy Seabee).
- 4Proficiency in PowerDB software is a plus.
- 5Good PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Excel.
- 6Prefer OSHA 30, MSHA, NFPA 70E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training; training can be provided.
- 7Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- 8Ability to pass pre-employment drug test, criminal background check, and fit-for-duty physical exam.
- 9Willingness to travel overnight and occasional international travel, plus flexible hours and overtime.
- 10Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
Salary Insight
$96 - $150k per year
