Lab Assistant III - Phlebotomy - Sutter Health
Overview
You will own the analytic phase of Laboratory work flow at MPHS-Mills-Peninsula Medical Center, supporting quality control and patient specimens. You will operate and troubleshoot waived and moderate complexity analyzers, collect blood specimens, and interact with patients of diverse ages and backgrounds. This role requires a CPTI-Certified Phlebotomy Technician I and 2 years recent relevant experience. You will guide phlebotomists and lab assistants to optimize workflow and resolve problems rapidly. Working evenings on a per diem basis, you will ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care.
What You'll Do9
- 1Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot Laboratory analyzers for waived and moderate complexity testing.
- 2Collect blood specimens from patients, adapting to diverse ages, backgrounds, values, and beliefs.
- 3Receive, handle, and process a variety of specimens for Laboratory testing, ensuring integrity and proper tracking.
- 4Complete computerized tasks for patient registration, test order entry, and specimen collection and processing.
- 5Perform post-analytic tasks including distributing reports and storing or retrieving specimens.
- 6Guide phlebotomists and lab assistants to promote optimal workflow and rapid problem resolution.
- 7Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations, codes, and policies to ensure privacy and safety.
- 8Respond to volume fluctuations, unexpected equipment or information system failures, and shift-to-shift hand-offs.
- 9Monitor pending logs and priority assignments to manage STAT test orders and specimen integrity issues.
Requirements10
- 1HS Diploma or GED required.
- 2CPTI-Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (California) required.
- 32 years recent relevant experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- 4Knowledge of standard principles and processes for ordering Laboratory testing and collecting blood specimens.
- 5Ability to compassionately interact with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, and beliefs.
- 6Skill in handling and processing biological specimens routinely submitted to the Laboratory for analysis.
- 7Ability to support the performance of waived and moderate complexity testing accurately and reliably.
- 8Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaborative work.
- 9Ability to organize and prioritize tasks within expected timeframes.
- 10Solid critical thinking to recognize and escalate deviations, problems, and unexpected outcomes.
Salary Insight
