Junior Accountant, Catholic Diocese of Wilmington & Charities
Overview
Own day-to-day accounting for Catholic Charities and the Diocese at a Wilmington-based onsite finance office. Lead bank reconciliations, month-end close, journal entries, and budget alignment using standard accounting software. Collaborate with program managers and auditors to provide financial data and documentation. This role supports a mission-driven organization with a strong emphasis on accuracy, confidentiality, and cross-department collaboration.
What You'll Do9
- 1Build and reconcile bank accounts daily and monthly to ensure accurate deposits and transactions.
- 2Assist with month-end close activities including reconciliations, account analysis, and supporting documentation.
- 3Prepare and analyze journal entries including accruals and prepayments while reviewing balance sheets and ledgers for accuracy.
- 4Develop understanding of budgets to ensure deposits and expenses align with expectations.
- 5Provide financial data and supporting documentation to Program Managers, auditors, and departments on request.
- 6Analyze expense accruals to ensure correct cost centers are used and prepare related entries.
- 7Collaborate with development and other departments to allocate deposits to correct accounts and departments.
- 8Identify and resolve accounts payable and receivable discrepancies and outstanding issues.
- 9Communicate with internal stakeholders to resolve payment and billing discrepancies in a timely, professional manner.
Requirements9
- 1Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field or equivalent experience
- 2Aptitude for mathematics with quick interpretation of facts and figures
- 3Intermediate knowledge of accounting procedures, systems, and reports
- 4Strong computer skills including basic accounting software and Microsoft Office
- 5Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a busy Finance Office and meet deadlines
- 6Clear verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail
- 7Ability to build trust with individuals from diverse backgrounds and safeguard confidential information
- 8Willingness to undergo criminal background check and drug screen as required by law
- 9Commitment to the mission and values of the Diocese of Wilmington
