IP Associate, Patent Prosecution & Litigation
Overview
Own patent prosecution and litigation for technology clients at a Cybersecurity firm. You will draft and file applications before the USPTO, manage office actions, and support trials and PTAB proceedings. Work with inventors and partners to protect core IP assets. The role offers a hybrid remote schedule and a clear path to senior associate.
What You'll Do8
- 1Draft and file patent applications with the USPTO and foreign offices, prepare office action responses, and coordinate international filings.
- 2Manage litigation tasks: prepare pleadings, discovery requests, claim construction briefs, expert reports, and motion practice.
- 3Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, validity, and infringement analyses; write opinions and strategic recommendations.
- 4Represent clients before PTAB and coordinate with external counsel on post-grant proceedings.
- 5Maintain docketing and prosecution timelines, ensure timely filings, and comply with client instructions.
- 6Collaborate with inventors and engineers to capture inventions and align patent strategy with commercial goals.
- 7Mentor junior associates and patent agents, lead training sessions, and share knowledge across teams.
- 8Support business development by participating in pitches, client meetings, and drafting marketing materials.
Requirements8
- 1JD from an accredited law school and admission to a U.S. state bar; USPTO registration preferred.
- 2Technical degree (BS, MS, or PhD) in engineering, computer science, physics, biotechnology, or chemistry.
- 33+ years in patent prosecution with demonstrable litigation or post-grant experience (PTAB or IPRs).
- 4Proven drafting skills for patent applications, office action responses, and litigation briefs.
- 5Hands-on experience with claim construction, infringement, validity, and multi-jurisdictional strategies.
- 6Excellent written and verbal communication, client-facing ability, and cross-functional teamwork.
- 7Track record of managing tight deadlines and prioritizing tasks without sacrificing quality.
- 8U.S. work authorization without visa sponsorship required.
Salary Insight
$180 - $240k per year
