Intellectual Property Expert | $90-$100/hr Remote
Overview
This is a remote, hourly contract opportunity for senior intellectual property professionals to help train AI systems in the nuances of patent law and IP strategy. You'll design realistic scenarios, draft reference answers, and create scoring rubrics that reflect how experienced IP counsel actually think. The work spans both US and international patent systems, so you can focus on the track that matches your expertise. It's a chance to put your deep legal knowledge to work in an AI training context, with a competitive hourly rate.
What You'll Do5
- 1Create detailed IP case studies that mirror real-world patent prosecution, portfolio management, trademark and copyright disputes, and technology licensing negotiations.
- 2Develop evaluation tasks covering the full spectrum of IP practice, including litigation, enforcement, freedom-to-operate analysis, and claim drafting.
- 3Incorporate industry-standard tools like patent search databases (e.g., PatSnap, Innography, USPTO PatFT) and portfolio management platforms (e.g., Anaqua, CPA Global) into your scenarios.
- 4Produce reference outputs such as patent applications, office action responses, license agreements, and litigation memoranda that align with the procedural rules of either the US (35 U.S.C., MPEP, Federal Circuit precedent) or international (EPC, PCT, WIPO) framework.
- 5Write scoring rubrics that can tell the difference between genuine IP expertise and superficial knowledge from law school or bar prep.
Requirements4
- 1At least 5 years of hands-on experience as an IP attorney or patent agent at a major firm (think Fish & Richardson, Finnegan, Wilson Sonsini) or in-house at a tech or pharma company.
- 2Proven track record of managing patent prosecution portfolios, leading licensing discussions, or handling IP litigation matters directly.
- 3Deep familiarity with IP software and methods, plus a solid understanding of how USPTO and EPO procedures and international treaty systems operate in practice.
- 4A recognized credential is a big plus — such as a JD with bar admission and USPTO patent bar registration, or an international equivalent like European Patent Attorney. A STEM background or experience writing training rubrics also helps.
