Instructional Assistant, Transitional Kinder (TK)
Overview
You will own classroom support for a Transitional Kinder teacher, directly guiding small groups of students and reinforcing lessons in reading, math, and social skills. You'll work with a classroom of 20-24 young learners, coordinating with the lead teacher and other aides to maintain a safe, joyful learning environment. This role includes preparing materials, monitoring student progress, and supporting inclusive practices for diverse learners. You'll also assist with field trips, playground supervision, and parent conferences, making you an integral part of the TK team at Redwood City School District.
What You'll Do8
- 1Reinforce teacher-led lessons with individual students or small groups, adapting instruction in reading, math, and social skills to meet each child's needs.
- 2Set up and break down instructional work areas, bulletin boards, and displays, ensuring materials are ready for daily activities and lessons.
- 3Administer and score classroom tests and pupil work, maintaining accurate records of student progress and behavior.
- 4Monitor student behavior during class, lunch, and recess, using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage appropriate conduct.
- 5Operate classroom technology including Chromebooks, iPads, and copy machines to prepare instructional materials and support learning activities.
- 6Assist in planning and chaperoning field trips and special activities, ensuring student safety and engagement.
- 7Confer with the lead teacher on lesson plans and student needs, providing input on adjustments for English learners and students with special needs.
- 8Maintain and organize classroom materials and equipment, reporting any needed repairs to keep a safe learning environment.
Requirements8
- 11+ year of experience working with children in an organized educational or childcare setting.
- 2High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3Knowledge of basic subjects taught in TK, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, and reading.
- 4Ability to reinforce instruction and support positive behavior in young children.
- 5Skill in operating office equipment such as computers, printers, and copiers.
- 6Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and staff.
- 7Capacity to maintain student records and report progress accurately and confidentially.
- 8Willingness to participate in in-service training and parent-teacher conferences as needed.
