HVAC Controls Engineer, Building Automation (BAS)
Overview
You will design, program, and commission HVAC building automation systems (BAS/DDC) for commercial projects, splitting time between office and customer job sites. You will configure controllers, develop control sequences, and work with installation teams to deliver fully operational systems. Your work will span new construction and retrofits, with a focus on Alerton, Tridium, or Siemens platforms. This role offers direct impact on system performance and customer satisfaction, with opportunities to train owners and refine system integrations.
What You'll Do7
- 1Configure and program HVAC building automation controllers, creating sequence of operations and testing software programs.
- 2Develop and test software programs to operate the system, applying field changes for as-built drawings and software.
- 3Execute full project lifecycle: system programming, integration, network commissioning, and project closeout.
- 4Complete hardware design and software programming using established standards for BAS/DDC systems.
- 5Load, verify, and commission all system controllers, validating complete system functionality and resolving issues with subcontractors.
- 6Provide accurate as-built and commissioning documentation for each project.
- 7Train owners and operators on the total system, ensuring they have the manuals and documentation for proper operation.
Requirements8
- 1Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent training and experience in a similar field.
- 23+ years of hands-on experience with digital HVAC controls design, commissioning, and programming.
- 3Proficiency with Alerton, Tridium, or Siemens systems.
- 4Knowledge of HVAC controls in new construction and renovation/retrofit projects, with ability to program and commission pre and post installation.
- 5Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- 6Highly organized, able to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment while meeting project schedules.
- 7Demonstrated ability to operate independently and take ownership of all tasks.
- 8Ability to travel to customer job sites, including climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and lifting equipment up to 25 pounds unassisted.
