Building Automation Service Technician, HVAC Controls
Overview
You will independently own standard service calls for commercial and healthcare buildings, from assessment to verified resolution. You will troubleshoot BAS controllers, field networks, and connected HVAC equipment. Working with a 24/7 NOC, you will coordinate with engineers and technicians to deliver stable solutions. You will build deep expertise in WebCTRL, Niagara, and other platforms while growing your career path.
What You'll Do10
- 1Troubleshoot BAS controllers, field networks, workstations, servers, and VFD interfaces to find root cause.
- 2Modify authorized programs, graphics, schedules, and alarms in WebCTRL or Niagara with backups and verification.
- 3Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, and minor repairs on HVAC controls and field devices.
- 4Troubleshoot BACnet, Modbus, and ARCNET integrations while respecting IT boundaries.
- 5Communicate with customers on arrival, scope changes, and departure, translating technical findings.
- 6Complete service records and time entries accurately, documenting issue, work, and next actions.
- 7Identify upgrades and repairs outside scope, capturing details for estimates.
- 8Coordinate with the NOC, engineering, contractors, and vendors; share knowledge with developing techs.
- 9Protect credentials and data, escalating cyber risks and never bypassing access controls.
- 10Participate in rotating on-call schedule and respond to emergencies when conditions require.
Requirements10
- 13+ years hands-on experience with commercial HVAC controls or building automation systems.
- 2Working knowledge of HVAC equipment, DDC control theory, electrical fundamentals, and control wiring.
- 3Ability to read control drawings, mechanical plans, electrical schematics, and sequences of operation.
- 4Practical understanding of Ethernet and IP networking, including addressing and subnets.
- 5Strong diagnostic judgment, organization, and written service documentation.
- 6Valid driver's license and ability to meet company vehicle-insurability requirements.
- 7Ability to work independently in the field and escalate safety and technical risk early.
- 8Ability to satisfy customer-site screening and access requirements.
- 9Preferred: Automated Logic WebCTRL experience, including commissioning tools and programming.
- 10Preferred: Experience with Niagara N4 or other platforms like Carrier, Johnson Controls, Siemens.
Salary Insight
