Highway and Bridge Inspector, Civil Construction & Compliance
Overview
Field inspector leads oversight of interstate reconstruction projects ensuring alignment with specifications and safety standards. Manage documentation, testing, and reporting across roadway, bridge, and site civil tasks on a multi-year project. Collaborate with field crews, forepersons, and project managers to maintain quality and schedule. This role differentiates through hands-on field work on large-scale interchange reconfiguration, with a strong emphasis on safety, accuracy, and real-time problem solving.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build detailed inspection records and progress reports for each phase of interchange reconfiguration
- 2Inspect 21 bridges and related structures including MSE walls and cast-in-place concrete elements to verify conformity with contract documents
- 3Monitor roadway and drainage construction and verify grading, paving, and erosion control meet specifications
- 4Observe rock cuts, blasting, PCC paving and asphalt resurfacing ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards
- 5Review daily safety conditions, identify hazards, and document corrective actions
- 6Communicate inspection findings with contractors and project staff to coordinate non-conformance resolution
- 7Document field tests and ensure materials workmanship meet contract requirements
- 8Prepare weekly timesheets and logs and submit reports on schedule
- 9Maintain inspection records and measurements to support contractor compliance
- 10Support traffic control monitoring to verify setups meet project safety requirements
Requirements5
- 1Minimum of 2+ years of civil inspection experience in roadway, bridge, reinforced concrete, or site civil projects
- 2ACI / FCON (GDOT Concrete Certification) Field Concrete Certificate or equivalent
- 3Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and procedures
- 4Proficiency with computers and software tools such as Procore, Excel, Word
- 5High school diploma or GED and physical ability to perform field inspections
