HDD Underground Locator, Telecom Construction
Overview
You will own bore path accuracy for HDD fiber installations at ByVerTek, working on telecom construction projects across Phoenix, AZ. You will track the drill head in real time, document depths, and coordinate with drill operators to hit specs on every bore. The team handles underground fiber builds for major providers, and your precision keeps projects on schedule and compliant with OSHA standards. This role demands field toughness and a focus on safety, with room to grow as the company expands.
What You'll Do9
- 1Walk the bore path with the Field Supervisor and drill operator to confirm alignment before drilling starts.
- 2Complete a JSA and all required paperwork before each job, noting hazards and clearances.
- 3Track the drill head during HDD operations, recording depth and position to keep the bore on plan.
- 4Verify the drill head lands at the exit pit correctly, ready for product pullback.
- 5Locate existing utilities and maintain clearances from gas, water, and electric lines per OSHA and job specs.
- 6Read and interpret blueprints to guide locating and ensure bore alignment with design.
- 7Maintain constant phone contact with the drill crew and field leadership, updating on progress and issues.
- 8Flag any clearance or depth deviations immediately to the drill operator and Construction Manager.
- 9Support the crew with other tasks as needed to keep the job moving safely and on schedule.
Requirements9
- 11+ years of experience locating for HDD operations, with a track record of accurate depth readings.
- 2Valid Driver's License; Class A CDL preferred, but we will train the right candidate.
- 3Physically fit for daily field work, including standing, walking, and lifting up to 75 pounds.
- 4Comfortable working in all weather conditions, from Phoenix heat to monsoon season.
- 5Proven ability to read blueprints and translate them into bore-path decisions.
- 6Strong verbal communication skills to coordinate with the drill crew and supervisors in real time.
- 7Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision while prioritizing multiple tasks.
- 8High school diploma or equivalent; some college or vocational training is a plus.
- 9Military experience is a plus, especially in a technical or construction role.
