Geotechnical Project Manager, PE & GE
Overview
You will own geotechnical projects from proposal to closeout, managing budgets, schedules, and staff for public works across California. This role sits under the Director of Geotechnical Services and works with senior leadership on complex flood control and transportation projects. You will lead client and public relations, negotiate costs, and drive technical quality. 8-10 years of experience in geotechnical engineering and management is required. This position is onsite in Sacramento, with travel to project sites across Northern California. What You'll Do8
- 1Manage project budgets and schedules, ensuring milestones and costs align with proposals.
- 2Review and edit geotechnical reports and calculations, applying Northern California standards and local geology.
- 3Solve complex geotechnical problems involving slope stability, settlement, and foundation design using GeoStudio and Civil 3D.
- 4Interpret plans and specifications, translating engineer requirements into actionable field and lab tasks.
- 5Communicate directly with clients, contractors, and public agencies, presenting findings and negotiating scope changes.
- 6Lead project meetings, driving decisions and keeping stakeholders aligned on objectives.
- 7Supervise and mentor project staff, assigning tasks and reviewing work for quality and deadline adherence.
- 8Identify risks early, implementing mitigation strategies and managing change orders without scope creep.
Requirements8
- 18-10 years performing geotechnical services and managing projects, with 2+ years in a supervisory role.
- 2Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required; Master's degree in geotechnical engineering strongly preferred.
- 3Professional Engineer (PE) license in California required; Geotechnical Engineer (GE) license preferred.
- 4Proven track record managing public works projects in Northern California, including flood control and transportation.
- 5Strong written communication, producing clear, active-voice reports that meet client and regulatory standards.
- 6Ability to travel to project sites and work flexible schedules as project demands dictate.
- 7Physical capability to perform site visits, including walking, bending, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
- 8Proficiency with Windows-based systems and project management software like MS Project and Excel.
Salary Insight
$104 - $130k per year
