Geotechnical Engineer, Foundation Design & Risk Assessment
Overview
You will own geotechnical and foundations engineering projects from site characterization through construction and remediation. You will serve as the subject-matter resource for analysis, evaluation, and risk assessment across a portfolio of subsurface conditions. You will work with Apex Systems' engineering teams and clients to deliver foundation design and risk mitigation strategies. This role offers direct project ownership and up to 10% travel.
What You'll Do8
- 1Own site characterization programs, including soil sampling and lab testing to define subsurface conditions.
- 2Design foundations and earthworks using geotechnical software such as SLIDE and PLAXIS.
- 3Drive risk identification and mitigation for slope stability, settlement, and liquefaction.
- 4Lead construction-phase support, including field inspections and geotechnical instrumentation monitoring.
- 5Deliver remediation plans for problematic subsurface conditions, ensuring compliance with ASTM standards.
- 6Coordinate with geologists, structural engineers, and project managers to align geotechnical aspects with project goals.
- 7Prepare technical reports and present findings to clients and stakeholders, clarifying complex geotechnical data.
- 8Review and interpret borehole logs and geophysical survey data to inform design decisions.
Requirements8
- 15+ years in geotechnical engineering, with a focus on foundation design and risk assessment.
- 2Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- 3Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field preferred.
- 4Proficiency with SLIDE, PLAXIS, or FLAC for slope and foundation analysis.
- 5Experience with ASTM standards and Geotechnical Data Management software.
- 6Strong understanding of soil mechanics and subsurface investigation techniques.
- 7Ability to travel up to 10% for field assignments and client meetings.
- 8Excellent communication skills for presenting technical findings to non-experts.
