What You'll Do7
- 1Set up and operate manual gear hobbing and shaping machines to cut gears to spec.
- 2Set up and operate CNC gear cutting machines, including loading programs and tooling.
- 3Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and gear specifications to determine machining parameters.
- 4Select appropriate tooling, cutters, feeds, and speeds for each job to maximize efficiency.
- 5Inspect finished parts using micrometers, calipers, and gear inspection equipment to verify accuracy.
- 6Adjust machine offsets and tooling as needed to maintain tight tolerances.
- 7Perform routine machine maintenance and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime.
Requirements8
- 12-5+ years of experience in gear cutting or precision machining.
- 2Hands-on experience with manual and CNC machines.
- 3Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T.
- 4Knowledge of gear types: spur, helical, bevel, and spline.
- 5Experience with gear hobbing and shaping machines.
- 6Practical experience with CNC programming or editing.
- 7Proficiency with gear inspection tools such as gear tooth micrometers and lead/profile testers.
- 8Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
