Founding Engineer, GovTech AI for Local Government
Overview
This role owns the core technical foundation of an AI-powered voice agent platform for local government. You will shape architecture, ship end-to-end features, and drive DevOps and observability practices at a Y Combinator backed startup. You will collaborate with the founding team and early engineers to define how the product scales and evolves. This is a high-ownership opportunity to build from first principles in a mission-driven environment.
What You'll Do8
- 1Build core product features across frontend backend and infrastructure
- 2Own architecture and infrastructure decisions to support scalable production systems
- 3Ship production quality code quickly and iterate on feedback
- 4Build and maintain APIs services and data models
- 5Establish DevOps CI CD monitoring observability and reliability standards
- 6Collaborate with founders and cross functional partners on product direction
- 7Participate in customer conversations translating needs into technical solutions
- 8Help mentor and recruit early engineering hires as the team grows
Requirements10
- 1Must have 3+ years of professional software engineering shipping production web applications
- 2Experience shipping end to end features at early stage startups
- 3Experience deploying and maintaining cloud based services with CI CD pipelines
- 4Proficiency in at least one core backend language Node js Python or Go
- 5Experience designing consuming RESTful APIs with versioning and security considerations
- 6Experience building MVPs iterating quickly on user feedback
- 7Experience designing working with relational and or NoSQL databases data modeling
- 8Full stack development experience backend APIs and frontend UI
- 9Strong fundamentals in software design algorithms and system architecture
- 10Excellent communication skills collaborative product minded approach
