Food Service Aide, NYC Aging & DOH Compliance
Overview
You will run meal services at the Weinberg Center for Balanced Living, serving 100+ older adults daily. You'll manage the service line, ensure NYC DOH and HACCP compliance, and pack take-home meals. You'll collaborate with the Kitchen staff and volunteers to deliver a positive dining experience. This temporary role offers hands-on experience with senior nutrition programs.
What You'll Do8
- 1Set up and clear food service areas for congregate meals and special events, ensuring punctual breakfast and lunch service.
- 2Transport and serve meals with portion control, meeting HACCP and NYC DOH food safety standards.
- 3Pack and label take-home meals with 'Made On' and 'Expires' dates, including reheating instructions and Nutrition Facts.
- 4Clean and sanitize the service line, dining area, pantry, and equipment like steam tables, coffee machines, and refrigerators/freezers.
- 5Receive and store food and supplies, labeling per funder protocols and checking temperatures for safe consumption.
- 6Work with Directors to adjust menus based on inventory and member needs, ensuring smooth operations.
- 7Record temperatures, monetary meal contributions, and meal attendance accurately during service.
- 8Engage with members and collaborate with volunteers to create a welcoming meal program experience.
Requirements8
- 1NYC Food Handler Certification and high school diploma required.
- 21+ years in food services, preferably with older adults.
- 3Fluent in English; Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese a plus.
- 4Know NYC DOH and NYC Aging food safety rules and sanitation procedures.
- 5Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely, including ovens, steam tables, and slicers.
- 6Maintain cleanliness and hygiene, including proper glove use and protective gear.
- 7Communicate clearly with team members and older adults, showing patience and flexibility.
- 8Work independently in a deadline-driven environment with basic computer skills.
