Fitness Club Manager, Operations & Member Retention
Overview
Fitness Club Manager owns daily operations at a high-traffic Chicago gym, overseeing staff, member experience, and revenue. You'll lead a team of personal trainers and front desk staff while managing POS systems, inventory and payroll. This role blends retail management with fitness leadership, reporting to the General Manager. Your first 90 days focus on stabilizing operations, boosting member engagement, and hitting sales targets through targeted marketing campaigns.
What You'll Do10
- 1Lead daily operations of the fitness center, ensuring POS transactions run smoothly and safety standards are met.
- 2Recruit, interview, and onboard new staff, then run training and development programs for all roles.
- 3Build staff schedules and process payroll, maintaining optimal coverage during peak hours.
- 4Oversee equipment maintenance, inventory control, and retail merchandising to keep the floor stocked and clean.
- 5Resolve member issues on the spot, turning complaints into retention wins through CRM follow-up.
- 6Drive membership sales with promotional campaigns and pricing strategies, tracking results in spreadsheets.
- 7Manage bookkeeping tasks, including cash handling and sales reports, using Excel and QuickBooks.
- 8Monitor retail metrics like sell-through and conversion to adjust marketing efforts.
- 9Enforce health regulations and safety protocols, conducting regular audits and staff training.
- 10Mentor team leads, setting performance goals and conducting evaluations biannually.
Requirements10
- 13+ years in retail or fitness management with supervisory experience.
- 2Proven track record managing payroll, scheduling, and inventory in a POS-based environment.
- 3Hands-on experience with recruiting, onboarding, and training staff.
- 4Ability to lead sales initiatives using marketing strategies and pricing models.
- 5Strong organizational skills with ability to juggle bookkeeping, customer service, and compliance.
- 6Experience with inventory software and retail math for stock control.
- 7Excellent communication skills; bilingual a plus.
- 8Familiarity with safety regulations and health codes in fitness facilities.
- 9Demonstrated leadership in a team-oriented environment with store management experience preferred.
- 10Proficiency with POS systems and cash handling procedures.
