Fire Inspector (Part-Time), Fire Prevention & Code Enforcement
Overview
Fire Inspector in Deer Park, TX: protect citizens and visitors by conducting fire inspections and delivering public education. Report to the Fire Marshal, collaborate with the Incident Management Team under NIMS protocols in emergencies, and inspect buildings for fire code violations. This part-time role offers one to two days per week, on-site, with the chance to shape community fire safety programs.
What You'll Do8
- 1Inspect buildings to locate hazardous conditions and fire code violations, including combustible material, electrical wiring problems, and non-functional fire exits.
- 2Present and explain fire code requirements and fire prevention information to the general public.
- 3Write detailed reports of fire inspections performed, violations observed, and corrective recommendations offered.
- 4Inspect and test fire protection or detection systems to verify installation per laws, codes, and standards.
- 5Assist in the development, coordination, and planning of fire safety educational programs.
- 6Represent the City professionally in all interactions, including with the public, government agencies, and elected officials.
- 7Function effectively as a member of the Incident Management Team in accordance with NIMS protocols during emergencies.
- 8Use two-way radios for clear communication and maintain composure under high-stress situations.
Requirements9
- 1High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- 2Valid Texas driver's license.
- 31+ year experience in fire code inspections or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 4Certified as a Fire Inspector by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection at time of appointment.
- 5Training in NIMS (IS-700, 800, 100, 200, 300, and 400) preferred.
- 6Basic knowledge of construction methods, fire behavior, fire sprinklers, fire alarms, and vent/hood systems.
- 7Ability to lift, drag, and carry up to 75 pounds and perform physical tasks like climbing and crawling.
- 8Experience in Plan Review preferred.
- 9Public speaking experience preferred.
