Overview

You will lead and direct the City of Deer Park's Parks and Recreation Department, managing a budget that spans recreation, senior services, marketing, and facility operations. You will oversee subordinate supervisors and coordinate capital improvement projects with the Director. This role places you at the helm of community engagement, including corporate sponsorships, grants, and special events. You will also serve as the department's Emergency Operations Center backup, ensuring continuity and safety for the community.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Direct and oversee all divisions including Recreation, Senior Services, Marketing, Park Operations, Facility Maintenance, Membership Services, Athletics, and Aquatics.
  • 2Prepare and manage the budget for assigned divisions, including hotel/motel appropriations, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with city goals.
  • 3Assist the Director with capital improvement projects, from planning to execution, to enhance park and recreation facilities.
  • 4Develop and enforce policies and procedures for all supervised divisions, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency.
  • 5Lead long-term planning and implement parks and recreation programs, while maintaining positive public relations for the department.
  • 6Supervise subordinate supervisors, reviewing their work and evaluating staff performance to maintain high service standards.
  • 7Present reports to the City Manager, City Council, and Parks and Recreation Commission, and prepare agenda items for meetings.
  • 8Oversee operations of all facilities, including rentals, athletic fields, and aquatic centers, implementing policies that ensure safety and quality.
  • 9Set and achieve revenue goals for programs and facilities, and manage corporate sponsorships and donations to fund initiatives.
  • 10Research and secure grants, and serve as liaison to Youth Sports organizations, ensuring agreement compliance and strong communication.

Requirements10

  • 1Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation, Public Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 25+ years of management experience in a municipal or government setting.
  • 35+ years of progressive supervisory experience as a recreation or park superintendent.
  • 4CPRP certification or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
  • 5CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 60 days.
  • 6Valid Texas Class C Driver's License or ability to obtain within 60 days.
  • 7Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher).
  • 8Experience with RecTrac or similar parks and recreation software, preferred.
  • 9Knowledge of capital improvement projects, budgeting, and financial management.
  • 10Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to serve diverse communities.
